Zachary V. Moen (he/him) has 20 years of experience providing trusted legal counsel to clients at one of the country’s top law firms, as in-house counsel to both international and family owned businesses, and to clients in his own private legal practice. Mr. Moen has successfully represented hundreds of clients (from individuals to startups to growing companies to large international companies) in a breadth of practice areas, with $1 to $150,000,000 at stake. Mr. Moen serves clients in Chicago, New York, Michigan, and across the country.

In law school, Mr. Moen graduated in the top five students in his class, was elected managing editor of the law review, and won a statewide moot court competition.

Mr. Moen started his career in the litigation group at Jenner & Block LLP in Chicago where he represented numerous Fortune 100 and 500 companies in high stakes litigation and internal investigations. The partners at Jenner referred to Mr. Moen as a “total star” who “gets it right away” and who they would “affirmatively request to assist with their most demanding or complex matters.” While at Jenner, Mr. Moen second chaired a three-week jury trial on behalf of a public company alleging that its former top executives breached their fiduciary duties and seeking damages in excess of $150 million.

After relocating to Ann Arbor, Mr. Moen joined the intellectual property litigation group at Butzel Long in Ann Arbor, where he represented business, automotive, and media clients in numerous patent infringement, trademark infringement, copyright infringement, defamation, trade secrets, and other IP matters.

At the invitation of a client, Mr. Moen next served as in-house counsel for Daifuku Webb Holding Company, a multi-national supplier of material handling solutions for automotive, airport, distribution, and semiconductor applications, where he successfully and cost effectively managed numerous litigation matters against the company and its subsidiaries, reviewed and negotiated commercial terms for bids and contracts involving complex design and construction projects, and oversaw acquisitions, labor and employment, and immigration matters.

Mr. Moen next served as General Counsel of the Orlans Group companies and their affiliated law firm Orlans PC, where he was a key member of the executive team and provided legal counsel on a wide range of issues, including corporate policies, procedures, and programs, corporate structure and licensing, commercial and client contracts, employment law matters, ethics and professional responsibility matters, real estate issues, regulatory issues, dispute resolution, and litigation matters.  Mr. Moen also oversaw and managed the compliance, internal audit, client audit, and project management departments, managed escalated risk issues from a team of 65+ attorneys in 8 jurisdictions, and managed and oversaw a portfolio of litigation and claims against the Orlans Group companies and Orlans PC.

In 2020, Mr. Moen’s passion for making law more client-centric, efficient, and accessible led him to found ZVMLaw to implement his vision of a client-centered boutique law firm with “big firm” experience, sophistication, and results.  Since its founding, ZVMLaw has produced tremendous results for its clients, some of which are listed on our Representative Experience page.

In addition to his legal work, Mr. Moen is a professionally trained violinmaker, having apprenticed with one of the top living violinmakers in the world. As a violinmaker, Mr. Moen was honored to serve as a director, officer, and executive committee member of the Violin Society of America and continues to serve as counsel to that organization. In addition, Mr. Moen has been honored to represent many professional musicians in major orchestras and operas nationwide as well as prominent experts, dealers, makers, and auction houses of stringed instruments worldwide.
