My album pick for this week is 1930s Violin Concertos, Volume 2, featuring violinist Gil Shaham playing Bartók’s Violin Concerto No. 2 with the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra under Stéphane Denève and Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 2 with Eric Jacobsen and The Knights. The album was released February 26, 2016 on Shaham’s own Canary Classics label. This week's pick was inspired by my fiancé Shannon's recent work trip to the University of North Carolina, where she saw Gil Shaham play Prokofiev's Violin Concerto No 2 with the Knights.
Shaham will be appearing at UMS in Ann Arbor on March 26 for "Bach: The Complete Sonatas and Partitas." I can't wait for that performance!
